About Oluwatoyin Abimbola

I'm Oluwatoyin Abimbola (sometimes listed previously as Oluwatoyin A. or O A.), and I write about the questions that shape how we live. Born in Nigeria, raised in the UK, I find myself constantly exploring what it means to be human in a world that often asks us to be anything but.

Writing has been part of my life since I was a child. From early poems and journals to being an early blogger before blogging became mainstream, I've always used writing to make sense of my experiences and the patterns I observe around me. What started as private thoughts became essays, then fiction, then a broader exploration of how we can build better relationships with ourselves and each other.

I'm interested in the space between what we say and what we actually do. The gap between our values and our actions. The way we navigate love, fear, leadership, and the challenge of staying authentic when everything around us suggests we ought to put on a show instead.

My published works include 'Humanity Unlocked: The Blueprint,' which follows a grassroots movement building community-led change in Lagos, and 'Love-ish: Poems on Something Like It,' which examines love, relationships and boundaries without the usual romantic filters. My audio essays explore themes like leadership and humanity - asking what happens when we stop expecting perfection and start expecting honesty.

Through my writing, I'm trying to create space for the conversations we don't usually have. The ones about how we actually live, not how we think we should live. I believe we have more control over our choices than we realise, and more responsibility for creating the world we want to see.

Essentially, I write to explore one question: How do we return to our shared humanity whilst still maintaining the boundaries and values that make us who we are?

If that resonates with you, I'm glad you're here. For those who might want to have a direct conversation, there is also co-think.

Creative Process

As a creative, I use AI as an assistive tool across my projects, but never as a substitute for my own creativity. My poems are personal, drawn from my experiences and choices of expression. My essays reflect my thoughts and belief system. My journals come from my personal reflections. AI helps with shaping and organising within my frameworks, but the ideas, insights and creative direction remain entirely my own.
